Here's a spoiler-free overview of how to get from the start of the game to the true ending. It probably could have been 20-25 if I didn't do a lot of the side quests. It took me about 40 hours to finish the game all the way to the true ending of the game. Undertale and Automata get very meta with their true endings, and they do things like messing with save files and stuff to play mind games. Oh, and both games break the 4th wall constantly. The first Nier was also an isometric Diablo game for a bit, and had a section that was exactly like Resident Evils 1-3.įor both Undertale and Automata, they move through all these different genres but never feel disjointed, you always feel like you're playing the same game despite the gameplay changing completely. Then it turns into a side-scroller beat-em-up, text adventure, Star Fox-esque rail shooter, both vertical and side scrolling shooters, and a twin-stick shooter. Nier is similar: the core gameplay is a Bayonetta / Devil May Cry-esque action game with bullet hell elements. Then, using the same exact system, it becomes a 2D platformer for a boss (Papyrus). I can settle for 720p/60fps if it means keeping within that budget.įrom a gameplay perspective, both Undertale and Automata bend their genres, while still feeling consistent somehow.įor Undertale, the basic combat is a bullet hell, where you just dodge enemy attacks while moving in 4 directions. I just hope a PC that can play NieR: Automata at 1080p/60fps won't cost anymore than US$500. Because it's one of the best RPGs ever made and my pick for GOTY 2017 thus far. Because it seriously deserves another purchase.
I've never had a PC designed for gaming (my current laptop from 2007 can't even run Melty Blood at a steady 60fps in windowed mode), so I want to make one and have NieR: Automata's PC requirements be the game I base my PC build on.īecause it deserves to be played at a flawless 60fps instead of the stuttering and hovering between 40-60fps on the PS4. If the port is good, I want to use the recommended specification requirements to figure out what kind of gaming PC I need to make.

The framerate issues never cheated me out of a well-earned dodge or parry (especially considering that the windows for dodges and parries are pretty lenient in this game), but it was painful to see the framerate struggling to keep up with the action and the open world aspects.
